Sensorial Room
“We build knowledge and understanding of the world through our senses, and the quality of learning is directly related to the quality of the experience, instruction, or training, the child receives in the early years of his life”. Maria Montessori, Educationist

On Monday 7th March 2005, the Association of Early Intervention for Children with Special Needs proudfully inaugurated two projects which come as partnership with private schools in Muscat; the Sultan School’s Sensorial room and the Artwork in Classrooms by The American International School Muscat.

It is one of the Association’s major aims to establish this partnership with schools because they play an important role in shaping our children’s characters and personalities; their active participation in community not only extends a helping hand to the needy but also spreads positive awareness towards the children with special needs.

It is believed that a child is born with no previous knowledge as to what the world is, how it functions or how it will affect him, the child responds in automatic and unthinking movements, these responses are called reflex actions.

The first sucking movement to feed is a reflex action, as is the movement of the baby’s eyes in following a light, or the grasping with fingers when the palm of the baby’s hand is touched and thus these senses are stimulated and developed to form the foundation of the child’s learning.

The Sensorial training aims to help the child attain maximum refinement of his senses and help him build his perceptions and awareness, to better understand and interact with the world around him. This lets the children enjoy an environment that fulfills these needs and develops their abilities by maximizing the use of their senses because these vital abilities given to us by all mighty are very effective in shaping our understanding and being.

We thank every participant for their support and help to the Association in serving these children, because we can only succeed and fulfill our role with your continued support and contributions to achieve our planned goals.
