What is Early Intervention
Acknowledgment

The centre will be a model resource centre for Early Intervention in Oman, encouraging other regions to duplicate the same services in their region. The centre will also provide training for all the staff and volunteers in the region and provide technical assistance for centres that would like to provide similar services
.

Training:
Continuous training is vital for the staff and volunteers in order to develop their professional skills in different areas such as general information on disabilities, speech therapy, occupational therapy communication, counselling, general information about disabilities, motor development, Portage Program administration, planning etc..

Counseling for Families:
Counselling is often beneficial for families of children with disabilities. The centre will provide support and strive to increase family awareness through counselling so parents can be more involved in their children’s treatment and educational program. The centre will also encourage families to form their own support groups to work together in planning their children’s future, help each other if needed, and become advocates for the people with disability in Oman

Education, Promotion and Advocacy:
There is a wide spread of negative attitudes about disability in Oman. Thus a key function of the Association is to generally sensitize the community at large through educational programs and mass media to improve public awareness of the needs of people with disabilities, and positive support. This includes advocating for the needs and services of persons with disabilities by coordinating with the government and the private sector in the areas of housing, jobs, health, education, and supportive services. One of the roles will also be advocating for the integration of children with disabilities into the public school system.

Research and Information Centre:
The centre will conduct scientific research, coordinate with official organizations related to this field, issue annual reports and produce publications. The centre will also function as the centralized location for information about national and regional surveys and other studies concerning disability in the country. The centre has already formulated a data entry system to document all personal information and progress reports for each child.
