What is Early Intervention
Our Partners

The Centre is a model resource centre for early intervention in Oman, encouraging other regions of Oman to duplicate the same services. The Centre provides training and technical assistance for staff and volunteers in the various CBRs. The Center also provides assistive aides to children with disability and their families.

Training:
The Center organizes training courses to develop the skills of its staff. These courses include training skills in management, planning, communication and general information about disability, awareness and counseling.

The Center in collaboration with the University of Nizwa provided a Special Education Diploma for its teachers and home visitors. Successfully, the first batch graduated in May 2009, while the second batch is expected to graduate by the end of 2012

Counseling for Families:
Family counseling has been proven to be extremely beneficial for parents to understand, adapt and cope with their children’s impairment. Family members need to reorganize and adopt a new lifestyle that caters to their wellbeing.

The Centre strives to provide the families the necessary counseling required.Hence, parents become more involved in their children’s individualized, therapeutic and educational plans, which in turn help the children with better coping mechanism.

Community Awareness:
The Center organizes awareness campaigns and educational programs through various media to help understand the issue of disability, increase social awareness and encourage people to play proactive roles towards children with disability and their families. This helps the community to better understand the needs of persons with disabilities accepting them and facilitating the process of their integration within the society.

Some of these activities:

  • Introductory presentations and lectures about the Center in schools, colleges and various other private organizations.

  • Specialized workshops in basic education schools for teachers and students.

  • Participation in fairs, seminars and conferences for the promotion of the general awareness.

Support Group:
The Center encourages families of children with various disabilities to form support groups to help them better understand the different needs of their children, and to provide for their needs of education, rehabilitation and treatment. Through parents, these groups support families in overcoming psychological, social, physical and technical difficulties.
